Southampton Middle School
Home of the Stallions
Middle School is the time adolescents explore what it means to “be me.” Once fascinated with everything, they begin to focus on ideas and activities that truly motivate and excite them as they become more self-aware of who they are and who they want to be. At Southampton Middle School we ensure students can pursue a variety of academics, clubs, and activities to help them in their journey.
We offer quarterly Unified Arts courses that students can select to learn more about art, computer science, drama, engineering, health, and music. In 7th grade students can take Career Compass, which is a career exploration course that helps them focus on their future goals. In 7th grade, students can take Algebra for high school credit and in 8th grade they can earn high school credit in Algebra, Geometry, French, German, Spanish, and ESOL. We also offer reading intervention for students who need additional literacy support and courses with both a general and special educator to support different learners’ needs.
Students can participate in 30+ clubs and organizations and can start their own clubs with an adult sponsor and administrative approval. Our Student Government Association (SGA) leads many of the school community service events to include Pink Out, Treats for Troops, and Toys for Tots.
Our schoolwide activities bring the whole community together. In the fall, through their physical education classes, students participate in the traditional Dave Wottle Turkey Trot. Families support their children by cheering as they complete in a mile race or walk. In the winter, students work with the Physical Education Department to fundraise for the Harford Family House, an organization that helps homeless families in Harford County. Southampton has raised over $90,000.00 for this organization just in the last three years.
